The Special Challenge Awaits: Excuses vs. Reasons

So this newsletter will be different. I am presenting you with a challenge! Over the next 30 days, I have a task for you.

Task: Let’s engage in a noticing game that can bring about positive changes in your life.

The challenge is simple yet transformative: distinguish between excuses and reasons. You’ll be surprised by the impact this can have on your actions and decisions.

In my coaching experience, I’ve found that many individuals tend to conflate excuses with reasons which can hinder their progress. It’s important you differentiate between the two.

Here’s the key insight: reasons are hurdles that can be overcome, while excuses are barriers we create for ourselves. When we recognize a reason, it becomes an opportunity to find solutions. Excuses, on the other hand, only hold us back.

Now, let’s take a unique approach that sets this challenge apart. Instead of just urging you to stop making excuses and take action, I encourage you to delve deeper.

Ask yourself: why are you leaning towards excuses in the first place? What underlying reasons contribute to this behaviour? The real victory lies in conquering these underlying factors, which is akin to slaying the dragon of self-doubt and hesitation. This perspective highlights why coaching can be incredibly valuable.

During the next 30 days, allocate some time to introspect. Whenever you find yourself hesitating to act due to what seems like a reason or an excuse, pause and evaluate.

If it’s a reason, work on resolving it creatively. If it’s an excuse, take a step back and understand why you’re resorting to this excuse. This could be a pivotal moment where you tackle something that has held you back for a long time.

We often attribute excuses to some form of reason. The journey you embark on can be just as transformative if you make this distinction.

So, let’s embark on this 30-day challenge together. By distinguishing between excuses and reasons and by understanding the deeper motivations behind excuses, you’re setting the stage for personal breakthroughs.

Get ready to overcome barriers and make strides toward a more empowered version of yourself.
