Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay.
For my undergrad, I studied Cognitive Systems which was a sort of precursor to AI. So, many of the conversations and essays we wrote many years ago are the same conversations we’re having now.
I’m optimistic yet realistic about AI. I was preparing to offer up my thoughts on how AI will impact our lives, but I ran a little experiment instead.
I asked Open AI’s newly released ChatGPT to write a 400-word blog about why the phrase “Day of Reckoning” is important to our own thriving.
My thesis was that AI would struggle for true insights, something I’d clearly see when comparing what it wrote with what I wrote.
The Significance of ‘Day of Reckoning’ by Keita Demming
What does it mean to be accountable for your day? Your week? Your month? The Year? When will you take a hard look at your past actions and demand accountability? In doing so, we have two options. We can stand at a mirror and say the person reflected in the pane is responsible for our past actions. Or we can look through the window in search of someone or something out there responsible for our past actions.
To many, the window offers a convenient point of escape for blaming people and things outside themselves. They avoid the day of reckoning, that dreaded time for tallying up their past actions and holding themselves responsible. Conversely, the self-help industry would have us believe the person caught in the pane is always fully accountable. Between these two perspectives lies the truth that a person is oftentimes only partly responsible.
It’s also true that, while gazing at our own reflection offers tremendous value, so too does peering past ourselves and straight through the window. There are always things beyond yourself that contribute to our successes and our struggles.
Your environment in some measure influences your actions. Audit your environment—the people, resources, communities, and culture that influence your actions. Inviting a day of reckoning with things both internal and external to you is worth it. It’s only in holding yourself accountable that you use your time optimally.
The Significance of ‘Day of Reckoning’ by Chat-GPT
The phrase “Day of Reckoning” has been used throughout human history to describe a time of judgment, accountability, and resolution. In today’s society, it is becoming increasingly relevant as we face the consequences of our actions, both as individuals and as a global community. Here’s why this phrase is so important to our own thriving.
First, the “Day of Reckoning” serves as a reminder of our personal responsibility. We are each accountable for our own thoughts, actions, and decisions, and the choices we make can have long-lasting effects. Whether it’s the impact of our consumer habits on the environment, the way we treat others, or the values we uphold, every choice we make contributes to the world around us. The “Day of Reckoning” serves as a reminder that we will be held accountable for these actions, and that the choices we make now will shape our future.
Second, the “Day of Reckoning” is a call to action for systemic change. As a global community, we face complex and interconnected problems that require systemic solutions. Climate change, inequality, and social justice are just a few of the issues that demand systemic change if we are to thrive as a society. The “Day of Reckoning” serves as a reminder that we must take action now to address these problems and create a better future for ourselves and generations to come.
Third, the “Day of Reckoning” is an opportunity for reflection and growth. As we face the consequences of our actions, it is important to take a step back and reflect on what we have done and what we can do differently. This is a chance to learn from our mistakes, make amends, and grow as individuals. By reflecting on our own experiences and choices, we can gain a deeper understanding of the world around us and our place within it.
Finally, the “Day of Reckoning” is a time for hope and renewal. While it may seem daunting to face the consequences of our actions, it is also an opportunity to start anew. By embracing the “Day of Reckoning” as a time of change and growth, we can build a better future for ourselves and for the world around us. This is a time to come together, to work towards common goals, and to create a more sustainable, equitable, and just world.
In conclusion, the “Day of Reckoning” is an important phrase that reminds us of our personal responsibility, calls for systemic change, provides an opportunity for reflection and growth, and offers hope and renewal. As we face the consequences of our actions, it is crucial that we embrace this moment and work towards creating a better future for ourselves and the world around us.

So, there you have it. A version written by me and one written by AI.
May I be so bold to say, the one I wrote offers true insight, while the one written by AI offers regurgitation. If you can’t offer value in the form of true insight, then it will be some time before AI makes you obsolete.
Fear not, go into the world and create value for the people you wish to serve.
